Bainbridge WPCP 3.3 MGD Upgrades

  • Provide Construction Management (CMAR) services from concept to startup
  • Major rehabilitation and process additions to a 1972 plant to allow the municipality the ability to treat domestic and industrial wastewater for another 40+ years

Bates was selected in a competitive RFP process to provide CM at Risk services for this GA municipality. The project was constructed on adjacent property while the existing activated sludge plant remained in operation. The new plant is capable of treating up to 3.3 MGD of wastewater without need for upgrades. Project is the first in Georgia to use Aqua Aerobic’s Nereda process. Nereda technology purifies water using the unique features of aerobic granular biomass. Contrary to conventional processes, the purifying bacteria concentrate naturally in compact granules, with superb settling properties. The granules also house a large variety of biological processes that take place simultaneously which greatly assist in the water purification. Bates assisted the design group and municipality during process equipment selection and project design. “Fast-Track” construction process was employed to begin construction well ahead of Final 100% Drawing completion. This was instrumental in meeting the Owner’s completion deadline, allowing the overall schedule to be reduced by 5 months. Project included key features such as a new 4000 SF operations facility complete with two laboratories, office and conference spaces, and control room; quadplex pump station; sludge dewatering facility with two rotary screw presses; tertiary treatment structure complete with filters and UV disinfection; 750 kW emergency genset; and numerous upgrades to repurpose existing system with new headworks and sludge digestion. All of the construction was planned and phased such that existing treatment processes were not interrupted.
