Bates was selected to provide new facilities and repurpose existing in support of maintaining the Army’s fleet of locomotive engines. Major new facilities include a Wash rack, Blast Equipment Booth, Paint Booth and Decon building. The Wash rack and Decon buildings were pre-engineered metal buildings that were furnished and erected by Bates. The Wash rack building had a specialized foundation system and a 12-Ton OH crane. The administrative areas for maintenance personnel include interior finishes such as acoustical tile ceiling, LVT flooring, porcelain wall tile in restrooms, metal studs and drywall. The 5-acre site improvements required demolition of existing concrete paving, regrading, extension of site utilities, concrete paving and new rail spur construction. Upgrades in the existing building required major structural changes to support the installation of new OH doors large enough to accommodate locomotive engines. Project also required new fire protection systems and fire pumps, new high-efficiency LED lighting, and new fixed fall protection systems for maintenance bays. Scope also required Bates to travel out to Utah and transport existing assets to new facility (approximately 20 truckloads of heavy equipment and tools).
