TEDAC Intake Facility

  • Design/build contract for USACE-Mobile District
  • Highly secure new construction consisting of blast resistant walls made of CMU and concrete with exterior rigid insulation, and architectural metal panels.

Project consisted of a new 17,500 SF intake facility for the handling, scanning, testing, processing and storage of explosive laden material shared by two Government agencies.  The facility was built with large interior receiving and test bays, supported by forensic labs, restrooms, offices and secure server rooms. Construction included extensive security measures throughout the building such as X-10 locks, video surveillance, IDS and multiple levels of access control.  The building structure was conventional steel with 12” CMU and cast-in-place concrete walls. The exterior skin was a horizontal metal wall panel system and EPDM membrane roof.   Interior building finishes included epoxy floor coatings in the large work areas, VCT in the offices and ceramic tile in the restrooms. Specialized explosion proof electrical and exhaust systems were also utilized in the laboratories, along with a chemical resistant plumbing drainage system and lab wastewater treatment system. The project also included four packaged air conditioning units supplemented with hot water heating at the VAV boxes. All systems were controlled through a DDC system that reported back to a BAS system at the main campus. Network communications were added to the facility via fiber optic cabling, racks/switches and internal CAT 6 network cabling.  Project included site grading for the new facility and access drives, as well as, the installation of underground utilities including storm sewer, fire protection, domestic water, natural gas, electrical and sanitary sewer.
